What item of clothing have you owned the longest? Where did you get it and why have you held on to it so long?
My answer: The sweatshirt shown in the previous post. I got it from my good friend Kathy for Christmas 1992. I love it, it is warm and comfy and putting it on is like getting a hug from her. I'm wearing it today (we actually have sweatshirt weather finally!).

Mine's a sweatshirt too. It's the forest green Lamda Delta Sigma sweatshirt that I got my second year at SUU. (which would have been 1990-91)
I've kept it because I like the color, it brings back good memories, and it's so dang sturdy that it has yet to wear out on me!
I have a burgundy colored sweater I got as a missionary back in 1989. It's getting a little worn at the elbows. It still fits and it's soft, and it washes well, I think. I could be in denial. Maybe it's really ugly...
I was raised with a strict (very un frugal) policy of "if in doubt throw it out." I am sad to say I don't have anything in my closet with sentimental value longer than a few years. Now that I am married, I tend to hold on to things due to the need to pinch pennies or more so to be accountable and not irresponsible with our money. I have to blame my mother, who always has a trunk full of DI donations. I have started raiding them before they actually reach DI. My how my life has changed!
Oh, the times that I "rescued" shirts and skirts that had previously belonged to Heidi before they made it to the DI.
I still wear MANY of them.
Yeah and now that I am married (and therefore pinching pennies as is Jody), I want those back! :)jk
Does a purse count as clothing? If so, I have had my purse for 9 years and it's still going strong. It's like macrame teflon.
If not, then I have a zip-up hoodie from before I had our oldest child. It used to be my fancy hoodie, now it is my goat-midwifery-and-assorted-livestock-chore hoodie.
